Connecting to University Printers (Mac)

Connecting to University printers is very simple. First, make sure that your computer is connected to the SJU network either through an Ethernet cable or wireless. Then, follow the appropriate steps listed below:

Mac OS X Version 10.2.x (Jaguar)

  1. Launch Print Center (//Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities folder)
  2. Click Add icon on Toolbar or click Printers > Add Printer
  3. Select IP Printing from the drop-down box
  4. Printer’s Address: (IP Address that can be found on the printer)
  5. Printer Model: HP
  6. Select appropriate printer description: i.e. HP LaserJet 4050 Series
  7. Click Add
  8. Quit Printer Setup Utility when finished

Mac OS X Version 10.3.x (Panther)

  1. Launch Printer Setup Utility (//Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities folder)
  2. Click Add icon on Toolbar or click Printers > Add Printer
  3. Note: You may receive a message saying “Unable to turn AppleTalk on.” Click OK.
  4. From the topmost drop-down box, select IP Printing
  5. Printer Type: LPD/LPR
  6. Printer Address: (IP Address that can be found on the printer)
  7. Queue Name: (leave this blank)
  8. Printer Model: HP
  9. Select appropriate printer description: i.e. HP LaserJet 4050 Series
  10. Click Add
  11. Quit Printer Setup Utility when finished

Mac OS X Version 10.4.x (Tiger)

  1. Launch Printer Setup Utility (//Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities folder)
  2. Click Add icon on Toolbar or click Printers > Add Printer
  3. Click IP Printer icon on Toolbar
  4. Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD
  5. Address: (IP Address that can be found on the printer)
  6. Queue: (leave this blank)
  7. Name: (descriptive name) i.e. Post Hall 204 printer
  8. Location: i.e. Post Hall 204
  9. Print Using: HP
  10. Select appropriate printer description i.e. HP LaserJet 4050 Series
  11. Click Add
  12. Click Continue at Installable Options window (this step may have to be tweaked)
  13. Repeat process to connect additional printers
  14. Quit Printer Setup Utility when finished

Mac OS X Version 10.5.x (Leopard)

  1. Launch System Preferences
  2. Click Print and Fax
  3. Click the "+"
  4. Click IP icon in the new window's menu bar
  5. Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
  6. Address: i.e 129.68.165.7
  7. Queue:
  8. Name: i.e. Post Hall 305 Printer
  9. Location: i.e. Post Hall 2305
  10. Print Using: Select a driver to useÉ
  11. Enter model number in search box and select driver from the choices that come up
  12. Click Add
  13. Click Continue at Installable Options window (this step may have to be tweaked)
  14. Click Add
  15. Click Continue
  16. Quit System Preferences
